That's it. I just recently heard many banks are recycling bank account numbers. So when one person closes their sccount, the same account number is issued to a new person. The original account holder more than likely still has their old ATM card, and was able to take money out. The bank will refund you your money as soon as this is verified.
This is why I deal with a small bank. Less likely you will end up with problems like youn see with MBNA, B of A, Capital One, etc.
