Yes Doug, it is self contained but technically not through the wall. These units are typically used in industrial settings and only require a hole in the wall for the return and supply ducting. I just cut the hole big enough to fit the whole unit because of the corrugation of the tin making it harder to mount it flat to the wall. It is a 5 ton unit and all I had to do after mounting it was run 220V power and wire up a thermostat. I used a wi-fi enabled thermostat so that when I am coming home from work in TX, I can use my phone to start cooling off the shop.
