Th400 & T-case swap 208 to 205?
Swapping a round pattern 205 in place of the stock 208 on an 85. I assumed it was a direct fit but when I stuck them together I realized the adapter needs to be notched for one of the shift rails. With the output/input together and bottomed out there was a 2.5 inch gap which coincides with the adapter width. So am I ok to notch the adapter and bolt it up? Was the factory adapter the same part except for the notch? Disregard the AA adapter in the middle photo I stuck on there while I was experimenting.

You can use the stock adapter, but you'll have to swap the input on the 205 to the early style...and of course notch it. OR use the notched spacer. The factory 400/205 round pattern adapter is 4'' thick

That's what I needed to know. I'll use that 1.625" spacer. That may work out perfect since I need to shorten my front shaft a little since the D60 swap. That should give me about 1.75-2 inches of free play in the slip yoke. Rear shaft is getting replaced anyway since I'm going to fixed yoke on the 205. |

Don’t you need the specific NP205 adapter? How will you hook up the shift lever?

I'm running ORD Twin-Sticks. They needed to know what adapter so they could send the correct bracket. As far as stock, you have a good question.

yep stock has boss cast in to it for the lever bolt .
if going custom shifter and you can fab or buy a kit then not a problem . as said the adapter is thicker . just checked mine at 4" thick as the other member said .
