Picked up my first square body!

87' shortbed "r10". new 350 motor,700r4 trans.

Picked it up for 1500 bucks. bodys in decent shape. White.

Guy went from a 305 to 350 swap. didnt finish the swap parts etc and it had a bad idle problem. Wouldnt even run without the temp sensor and map unplugged.

I swapped :
350 injectors
350 ecm
350 knock
350 knock module
map
egr
Got it to idle good, then the bogging issue arrived.

replaced the fuel filter and that fixed the bad shudder. Man was it caked! i was told it had a new pump/filter. yea sure maybe 5 years ago? Swapping in a delco pump this weekend too.

front end was rebuilt 10 years ago,and rear end was changed. truck had 2.73 gears, and from driving it,it feels more like something lower. Which im not complaining.

Exhaust is rusted out. guy threw in complete dual set (flowmaster 40s) with tips that came out of a 83'. im hoping it'll work. i think he said it was a longbed though?

Brakes? uh oh. bad! you can barely touch the pedal and the front left, and rear right locks up. Its in a buds shop now being adjusted, front brakes replaced. Hopefully easy fix.

I'll post pics of it soon. Im already in love with it even though im dumping alot of money then i wanted too,but eh. you know how that goes!

Re: Picked up my first square body!

Welp! its still at the shop. Fixed the broken bolt on the thermostat housing
(welded a nut to the stud and she came off! woot)

replaced the detent cable as someone tried cutting it with pliers and failed. was having a hard shift issue, thing shifts smooooooooth now. Win.

Now onto this brake deal....if you BARELY press them on a roll up to a redlight etc the back driver side wheel locks up. I picked up front pads, and calipers. Pulled the drum off everything looks fine. no weird wear. they need to be adjusted a tad tighter, but thats it.

Rear center hose has been replaced at one time, some idiot used vice grips and rounded the head off. Ive got a new hose but,i dunno if i wanna change it now or not.

Im wondering if the front calipers are about seized as truck sat up for some time. lil pad left on front too. Or maybe a worn proportioning valve? checked the reset thing in it,it wasnt flipped. i'll make a thread about this.

Re: Picked up my first square body!

Well poo. its been in the shop for a few days. found out that :
rear brake hose fittings is stripped
front driver side caliper pins is stripped
and driver side rear cylinder is stripped.

WHOS EVER USING VICE GRIPS. i hate you. die

/rant.

So thats being fixed, new everything up front, rears adjusted and fixed. also a ac delco pumps going in,tanks being cleaned and new filter. put a filter in trying to fix a stutter issue, runs good. hour later its back. gummed tank. ugh.

thankfully i got 2200 bucks in a clean shortbed 2wd 4 speed auto with new 5.7 motor.
