New to me 92 GMC

My Dakotas both decided to die last month, so I looked for a new beater truck. Found this south of Spokane. They wanted 1200 and said the drivers door wouldn't close and the transmission leaked. I got it for 800 minus the tool box in the bed.

The Transmission leak was two bolts loose because they are slightly stripped and most of the other bolts were just loose! I got somewhere between 1/4 to 1/2 a turn on about 90% of the bolts.

I took the truck to my BIL (family mechanic) and he recharged my AC and put two pins in the door. Now I just have to replace the brake light switch and it will be a fine old beater.

Re: New to me 92 GMC

Yeah, it's OK. Needs a few things, but a pretty good beater.

One issue is the front seat. Seems that the seat has been replaced with a regular cab front seat and everyone has to get out to let people in and out of the back seat.

What seat was in there before?

The other problem is my oil pressure. it sits at 45 pounds at idle and moving cold.

But when it warms up.

I am running 10W 30 oil. Would going to 10w40 to 20w 50 help, hurt or not make any difference?

The truck has almost 260K miles and I am sure the motor is very loose. so if I can get closer to the cold pressure when the motor is warm, I would be a little happier.

The last thing is, am I even up to operating temps? Both trucks seem to settle at the same temp on the gauge. What I call 11:00 on the dial. Is that about 160F or closer to 190F?
