Need some help on my 87 auto gear selector

Truck has been torn apart for quite a while now. In the final stages of an LS swap. I noticed the other day when we finally got it running, the gear selector doesn't seem right. When I go to pull the gear selector towards me so I can shift down in to gear, I can now pull the lever all the way into the steering wheel. There's not a stop anymore. Is there a pin or internal mechanism that serves as the stop point? Haven't had time to tinker with it but thought I would get some opinions on whether it may need some parts to fix. Right now the shift linkage is just barely mocked up using the factory linkage to the 4l60e. Plan is to replace with a lokar linkage.

There's a spring in the column that you "pull" the lever into. the linkage movement is not reliant on that action at all. FWIW, my factory linkage from the TH350 worked perfectly on the 4l60e

Sounds like that Spring may have collapsed or now be missing somehow? Mine doesn't stop pulling forward. The only thing that stops it is it hitting the steering wheel. Lol

The plan was to use the factory but I am going with the Holley longtube headers and I think it prohibits using the stock setup.

pop the shift lever pin out and see whats going on in there if you can. I'm running the holley long tubes and they fit perfect, I have full range on my shifter

Dang. That's awesome. I will get the longtubes in and check it out. Right now it has some hedman short tubes and it contacts slightly. Did the stock setup just bolt right up or did you need to massage it in some?

Thanks for the feedback man!

I just left the adjustment bolt loose, and it all went together fine, tighten after you verify proper alignment. I also used the attachment for the trans off my 350, The 'C' shaped deal.

Yep, i robbed the 700r4 attachment and transferred it over to the 4L60e. Its all bolted up now with the current headers but it contacts slightly. I was guessing the long tubes would make it worse. Once they arrive i will mock everything up to see if i can get it to work.

More concerned about the steering column no on why the gear shift lever pulls all the way forward. Hopefully it will be a simple fix.
