Largest size tire on Z71

What is the largest size tire I can put on my stock 99 Z71. I want an all terrain tire. It has 235 75/16 on it now, they are almost brand new. I notice when I am driving down the highway, I am TRAVELLING at 75 mph on the speedo but pacing everyone. The speed limit is 65, so I'm figuring I'm about 5 mph off. I think it HAD larger tires but the lady I bought it from just put these on. They are GOODYEAR WRANGLERS but street tires. What size do y'all recommend

Re: Largest size tire on Z71

If you'll check the info label on the drivers side door it will tell you the standard tire size which if like mine is a 265/75/16, IIRC. Mine has 285/75/16 on it now but I will be putting the stock size back on it soon. I just don't offroad mine to need that big a tire.
IMO 235/75s are too small for our full size 4wds, however they are a bit cheaper.

Oh and with stock suspension the 285s don't rub on mine.

Re: Largest size tire on Z71

I'm going to look around for some. I found some (used) for the 82 I sold but they sure were not easy to find. So I guess I'm going to shoot for some 285s

Re: Largest size tire on Z71

Well the spare is 265 , but I think I'm going to go with 285. I like that look. I just replaced the original shocks... Now I have about a n inch more clearance and the tires really look stupid that small....MAN does it ride better. 250k on shocks is a lot

Re: Largest size tire on Z71

Big, does your truck sit level? Some tend to sag in the front just a bit over time. You can jack up one corner at a time and tighten the torsion bars on each side to lift it back up a bit. I just tighten the same number of turns on each bar to keep it even side to side. Or you can lower the front by cranking the bars down. This will affect the front end alignment some but after new shocks and tires it probably needs an alignment anyway right..
I used Monroe sensa tracs on mine and have always been happy with the ride and price.

Re: Largest size tire on Z71

I put the MONROE RELEX, they were recommended for FULL SIZE TRUCKS, and larger SUVs, also had to go to the dealer and get all new bump stops, they were ALL FOUR ROTTED AWAY. Anyway, I went with the original size 265, actually put the very same DESTINATIONS that were on it. Ball joints are bad and the idler arm needs replaced. I don't drive this truck only on weekends so probably next or the NEXT weekend, I will tackle that then get it aligned.... Anyone have any tips on the ball joints. I have changed several over the years but on the older vehicles..... ANY TIPS !!!!!!!

Re: Largest size tire on Z71

I have Destination LE2 on my 06 Crew and really like them. I'll probably go with a Destination on the 2000 before long too.
