Steering Wheel Question - 72 C-10 - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I have a question for the experts out there. I have a 1972 Chevrolet C-10 Cheyenne Color Code 510 Medium Blue with White Top. The truck is restored pretty much original but had a 60's era Camaro steering wheel. I bought a new 15" original style steering wheel in blue.

Is this darker blue wheel what would have been in the truck originally? It doesn't match the medium blue interior but I've searched online and seen a few unrestored originals and they have the darker wheel on medium blue interior.

Took a couple of pictures here....let me know what you think.

I think it is darker.

On a side, my 72 Super is blue as well (558). Everything is blue but the steering wheel and column parts, which are black.

If an opinion is what you are after?
I like how the darker blue pieces offset the seat. Keeps it popping to the eye.
If it was all that same light blue i think it would be too plain.

I suspect the steering column is painted lighter blue than would have been installed originally for a non-tilt column and the steering wheel is closer to oem. Non-tilt blue columns were likely dark blue.

Thanks for the feedback and opinions guys. To be clear what I was looking for was what the truck would have had as a steering wheel and steering column color originally. To Deadheads point this C-10 was non-tilt originally so was probably a dark blue column. Sounds like it would have either been dark blue or maybe black.

In the setting of a factory blue interior for the 72 MY a column and wheel would be black if the pickup was a highlander or if the column was tilt.

Just for reference, this is my original medium blue interior paint '72, column is non tilt and appears darker than medium blue

Thanks Snake72 and DeadheadNM....seems the darker blue steering column was standard on the medium blue interior. For me to be happy with this new steering wheel I will likely have to repaint the column and that will be a big PITA.

For those out there looking for the original style wheel in a 15" version, these are a really nice reproduction.

I'm a big fan of keeping the stock appearance steering wheel.
I understand a lot of the oem wheels cracked and crumbled, especially non black colors, so reproduction is the only option in many cases.

What bothers me on the repops is the shine. They are so new looking, too shiney, you can spot them a mile away (even if the color matches).
I've wondered if you could rub over the wheel with a 3M scuff pad ?
I think if you did it VERY LIGHTLY, a little at a time, you could remove just a tiny bit shine and make the wheel blend in with the interior, much easier on the eyes.
Anyone agree or disagree ??

P.S. MGM60, that is a beautiful Super you have there, medium blue is my favorite.

Interior trim paint is not the same color as body paint, the codes are at the bottom of old paint chip charts, search on the forum here.
Tilt columns are always black with black steering wheel....nice interior you have there.
i think the wheel would look less reproduction in black on a black column.

Larry, i feel the same, im gonna buy a black 15” wheel, sand 1/4 of the grain off then polish it, after that i will dull it down with scotchbrite or similar.

OP can you post a few pics of your door panels, what color did you use to get them the metallic like darker blue. I bought a can but haven't tried it yet and not sure of the name.
