Do yourself a favor, inspect...
Inspect and or change your appliance lines.
I woke up to the sound of running water couple days ago. I walk into my living room and water is shooting out of the middle of the damn wall under pressure, thought I broke a pipe. Washer hose had a hole, made holes through garage and livingroom drywall. Flooded. My homeowners insurance jumped right on it, sent out a emergency flood service, luckly it was mostly concrete floor as I was just getting ready to lay laminate flooring. You can see the new braided line through the small hole(2nd pic). This is actually the second time, my dishwasher broke a line about 10 years ago

Re: Do yourself a favor, inspect...
i used to work on appliances and saw it happen all the time the most common was the people using the cheap plastic supply lines for the refrigerator ice makers// for washers the braided stainless fill hoses is a great long term investment also the quick shutoffs so you can turn them off when not in use is a seldom used feature
hope you get it all cleaned up and back to normal soon

Another piece of advice, know where all your shutoff valves are. I had a hot water tank go on me a few years ago, same sound you heard, only it was against the wall. Killed the water input to the tank, hooked up the drain hose at the bottom of the tank and emptied it out. Got another tank for $120 and installed that eve using PVC pipe instead of the old copper stuff.

Re: Do yourself a favor, inspect...
I'd swap ot those galvanized supply lines while you had the wall apart. You ever look down the center of one of those, you'll never drink water again. Arond here they will corrode so bad that the water pressure will be cut in half or more.

Re: Do yourself a favor, inspect...
I had a toilet tank crack (upstairs of course) so the water just kept running and running luckily I came home for lunch that day so it only collapsed half my downstairs ceiling.
Some idiot (me) tightened it too tight So careful tightening toilets too

Re: Do yourself a favor, inspect...
a couple months ago i came home for lunch. while eating my sandwich I thought I heard the laundry start, (I was home alone) so I went to go down to the basement to see. as i walked past the bathroom it hit me. the water that is. the pipe BELOW the shutoff valve broke. you gotta love galvanized pipe.
good thing we were slow. bad thing is I had to make 3 trips to Lowes in a blizzard. |
