Hydroboost & Hyd clutch what years??

I've converted my 80 K20 to a 5 speed (NV4500) and rear discs. I'm wanting to install hydroboost and hyd clutch. But I don't know what GM years would be compatible for a 4 disc brake system and the NV4500 with a drivers side external slave cylinder.

Any help would be fantastic.

Late 80s trucks had hydraulic clutches, for the hydro boost brakes any one ton or diesel truck. you just to pay close attention because GM changed the fitting on the power steering from flare to o ring. Not sure on the best years.

Re: Hydroboost & Hyd clutch what years??

I used to have a 79 1 ton with the brakes, and I currently have a 77, 89, and 04 1 ton crew cabs with the hydroboost. The 04 is 4 wheel disk brakes but you don't want to use the booster from it. Gm made the relief valve hole too big, and the spring weak, so it blows off the pressure too easy. Strange enough none of my standard tranny trucks have had the hyd clutch except the 60 1 ton.

Re: Hydroboost & Hyd clutch what years??

I'm using the hydro boost out of an 84 1ton moving van that has the flare fittings. I believe that a proportioning valve is still required for 4 wheel disks though. The hydro sytem was given to me so I haven't done alot of research on it yet. The fluid pressure just replaces the vacuum pressure so I don't see why a proportioning valve wouldn't be needed.

Re: Hydroboost & Hyd clutch what years??

I just went by the local bone yard and I found a diesel blazer that still had the hydroboast brake on it but the pump was gone. Just shake some bushes and you can find what you need.

Wasn't it 85 when they started using hydraulic clutches and slave cylinders ? I'm just shooting a number here, I don't know the exact year.

Re: Hydroboost & Hyd clutch what years??

Because I have 4 disc's can I change to different master cylinders? Say I have a hydroboost from a disc/drum donor, can I buy a disc/disc mc that fits the booster and stop happily ever after?

Does the flare fittings also apply to the steering box or just the pump?

And DWCSR thanks for the link great info.
