Another upgrade............hood latch!!

Have you ever been driving down the highway and had your hood to fly open on you? I have and it's down right scary! That's not something that I want to experience again so I decided to upgrade to something a bit more modern. The solution? I used the latch assembly from my son's '97 that I'm going to be parting out. I figured that I may as well see if there were anything I could salvage before I let it go. I still have a few bugs to work out but it looks very promising.

upper latch I'm working on different shims to get it to fit flush. That's a 1/2" plywood block but it's a tad too tall. I'll probably experiment with a 3/8 and 1/4 piece to mock it up.

Re: Another upgrade............hood latch!!

Worked on the assembly some more this weekend. Turns out that once everything was bolted in, there was no need to shim the upper plate.

Re: Another upgrade............hood latch!!

That idea is growing on me as I have had the hood blow open once in the big middle of Wyoming. 120 louvers saved the day by reducing the wind drag and allowing me to see through them.

The S-10 Blazer sitting out here may be a doner candidate if someone doesn't come along and haul off the front end first.
