Changing a 61 frame
Well I know that you can lower a 1961 frame just as much as any other year but there are so many more upgrades out there for the 63-66 chassis setup. My question is has any of yal converted the two frames and if so does anyone have a build up. I'm sorry if I'm asking a common question but I honestly didn't find it in past pages. I know that they are different widths but other than that the bodies should be interchangeable....right?

the rear cab mounts to the same spot, but the fronts are wider on the 61.the boxes mount a little different too, and the front bumper is different.
they do make a dropmember for the 60-62, which might be cheaper than changing to a new frame and lowering that one. I think porterbuilt might make a c notch for the rear of those as well. |

Yea I actually talked to the guy at porterbuilt the other day... I'm really not looking to "bag" it I bagged an S10 a couple of years ago and wasn't really happy with it... I was looking to convert to rack and pinion front, atleast a 4" lower in the front and a 5-6" lower in the rear... ok I guess my next question is... Can I put rack and pinion on with my current torsion bar set up? and just lower...The owner of Porterbuilt said no but... you never know..

Maybe you know, but throwing in that your rear bed mounts will be off, too. Same reason, different width...but not hard to deal with IMO.

You can upgrade your '61 frame to the '73-'87 front suspension which will give you discs at the same time. As you may know there are tons of aftermarket parts for those suspensions. As for the R & P stering, it seems as though I've seen that somewhere, I just can't remember at the moment. Have you posted regarding this in the suspension forum here? If you can't find a 'kit' for the R & P it wouldn't be too difficult if you or someone you know has fabrication skills.

i bought a ifs kit from jim meyer race products (http://www.jimmeyerracing.com). i think you can run coilovers or shockwaves. i have coil overs. its not cheap, but very nicely made, and really is a "bolt in" the kit uses chevelle or impala spindles (i have chevelle)
i don't know if your trying to do this on the cheap or not? thought i'd chime in |
