Steering Column Clamp

On a 72 column there is a clamp just below the shift linkage, which unfortunately just come off in my hand. It is held on by a bolt, possibly 1/4", top and another on bottom. What is it for, where can I get one, and can I drive it without ? Hate to wreck it at this point. Thanks, TF

From what you are describing it is the clamp that holds the lower bearing housing in place. There should be two 1/4-28 screws that hold it and the bearing housing. The bearing housing fuctions to hold the end of the shift tube and your column is slotted for adjusting the housing. The clamp serves as a reinforcing member, but if you have both screws holding the bearing housing in place, it will probably be ok to drive it until you can get another part.

I can send you the part for $1 if you want one. Just PM me if interested.
