Re: whos running the 305
305s are ok. to me it depends on whether you're going to tear it down and do a rebuild or just use it as is.
if you plan on rebuilding anyway, the money's the same (or less) for the 350. if you plan on upgrading the 305 to make more power, you'll spend some $ just to get to the 350's baseline. same upgrades on the 350 get you even more. if your plan was to just put it in the truck and drive, you've already go it so you might as well use it. just my 2¢

Re: whos running the 305
I would not rebuild a 305 for HP when I can buy a 260hp crate motor from Jegs or Summit for 1500 dollars. It even comes with a 3 year warranty. I learned that the hard way when I took my 350 into the machine shop and went to pick up the pieces after they were done.

Re: whos running the 305
The 305 isn't a "bad" engine. They have their place and purpose. But performance in a heavy vehicle is not one of them.
I wouldn't even consider pulling with one. Gary

Re: whos running the 305
Not much point in using the parts on the 305 because when you're block is ready and internals are done you'll need all the external parts anyways. May as well have everything on the 350 and ready to go and drop in. Personally if the 305 is running fine and you need to get on the road ASAP I'd just throw it in. Build a mild 350 or 383 on the side if you want to keep the truck and have some good HP and tow with it. If you plan on selling the truck, don't both wasting money on building up a 350 unless you pull the engine and put the 305 back in when selling.
It all depends on what you need and what you're future plans on for the truck.

Re: whos running the 305
I have a 305 in my daily driver, and I have been very happy with it, both before and after it was rebuilt.
