Gas pedal differences

Can anyone tell me the differences between a 68 gas pedal and one from a 72? I recently bought a 68 and it's missing the pedal, only the rod is there. I know the 72 is a floating pedal and uses a cable linkage. The 68 is also a cable linkage and don't know if that is original or if it was changed. If it's original then the only difference would be in the floor mounted vs floating pad? If this is true, is it easy to swap the original to the floating style?

Any info is appreciated. Thanks!

I'm in the process of converting my 69 to a cable pedal. The cable pedal didn't appear on these trucks until 71, so I'm guessing your's has already been converted. You probably need a floating pedal replacement. Someone on the board may have one available, or they are listed in most of the parts venders online cataloges.

I had the pedal out of dad's 86 blazer lastweekend and noticed that chevy hasn't really changed the design too much...

Thanks to everyone for the info.

If I understand this correctly, pre 71 had a rod linkage style gas pedal. Does anyone have a pic of this, I'm just curious to see the differences.

Thanks to all once again.
