4l80e Conversion Help Needed

Guys, I'm swapping a 4l80e into my crew cab and have run into a minor issue. My shift linkage is a bit off. When initially rough fit it in, it looked like it would be close, but we didn't pay that close of attention. I got the trans back from the trans shop with the new converter and shift kit installed and just got it put up behind the motor and noticed this new issue.

So for you guys that have converted your trucks to a 4l80e, what did you do about the linkage? Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it.

Thanks for the response! Did you use the ACA-1800 series column shifters? More importantly, you wouldn't happen to have any photos of it finished by chance?

Thanks again for the help!

Re: 4l80e Conversion Help Needed

Okay, so I have been trying to get the Lokar shifter installed and it is fairly straight forward. But I have run into couple issues getting it to work. The first one is with the mounting bracket for the linkage on the pan rail. I installed a Hughes deep pan on the trans and there is not enough room for the bracket without heavy modification to the bracket. I would have to grind off at least a 1/4" off the bracket to center it up over the holes. The second issue is the Lokar bracket that mounts to the steering column. The piece on the column, where the factory linkage connects to is not wide enough for the Lokar plate to mount to. These things are not to difficult to overcome, but I just hate having to modify this kit that much to make it work. Plus I'm not thrilled with the prospect of having to modify my column, either.

The thought occurred to me that the '91 R/V series trucks had a 4l80e option and could I get the linkage from it? I realize that they were a rare option and finding the linkage out of one would be difficult to say the least. But what about getting the linkage out of an '88-'94 truck and making that work? What years and option codes should I look for at the yard?

Any advice or thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
