Anyone switch from a floor shifter to a 3 on the tree?

I know, it's sounds like I'm taking a step back, but the first two vehicles I had were both 6 cylinder, three on the trees. I've found a '68 4x4 with a regular three speed, but I REALLY would like to convert it to a column set up. Did they even make 3 on the tree set ups for 4WDs or is this just going to be a matter of rounding up the parts and switching them out. any advice on problems that might rear their heads in the middle of the conversion? Thanks.
