Resonable insurance for old truck

I am getting ready to get my truck up to shape to drive some. I don't drive it much so I don't want to spend the money for regular insurance. Does any one have any good sources for good insurance at a good rate?

Re: Resonable insurance for old truck

I have Hagerty on '72 Jimmy & '72 Blazer. Premiums are around $230 a year per truck. Not many restrictions on veh. use and established replacement value on both. No experience with their claims service and hopefully I'll NEVER have any.

Re: Resonable insurance for old truck

Jeeeeezzz, here we go again.

Okay Dave, please answer these simple questions:

Will your truck be locked up when you're not driving It?
Do you have another car you can drive?
Is that other car insured?

Are you looking for "Regular" insurance?

Smile Re: Resonable insurance for old truck

this is where you must be careful. Most of these guys don't under stand but the one with classic car INS. 100.00 is for 5000.00 200.00 is for 10,000.00 coverage 300.00 is 15,000.00 and that is once a year payment. Now there is a 25% by back if you want it back they take 25% of what the coverage is and you get it back to do with for what ever. Now i do hear that when you do that have have a choice of it not becoming Salvage car or truck. But these other coverages are not for Classic car's and you must have a primary car and it must be gauged or inside. No body under the age of 30 or 35 can be on the policy. So if your kid take the truck and gets hit Not sure if they will cover it.

Now i know of a few guys that have had bad crashes they send out a inspector to take pictures get information and to see if its a complete lose.with in 1 to 2 weeks you will get a full check to do with what ever you want.

I know of 3 old men one had a seizer while he was behind the wheel of his 1948 fat fender hit the back of a Police car and destroyed the car it was covered for over 65,000 they payed him totaled the car payed for the damages to the police car and the cops.

this 57 year old guy here in west Hollywood some kid driving a pizza delivery van was on the phone hit the back of a 1969 Z28 camaro and bent that bit-h and put the guy in the hospital for 3 weeks 55,000.00 plus medical came up to over 170,000 payed for

and the last one i know of my uncial had a 1968 Ranchro lost the front end lost the steering nucal hit a post going 45 mph destroyed the hole right side he only had coverage for 5000.00.the inspector told him the car was worth at least 15,000 the claims adjustor got him all but 100.00 for the policy got him a check in 4 days.

remember Regular car ins is not the same as collector car ins DO your Home work Or just Give the keys to one of the board members in here enjoy your truck.

DO the effort to make sure you protect your classic car or truck Pay the 300.00 a year get your coverage of 15,000.00 it might be a little lower make sure you have a good driving record

Thanks for the information. I am going to the time to find out what all my options are. I want good coverage but I do not drive the truck enough to be on a standard policy. I do not know if major insurers have a good policy for classics.

Re: Resonable insurance for old truck

I have Haggerty through my local Allstate agency that handles all of my other policies. $198 per year full coverage, 2500 mile driving limit. That is for the truck in current condition worth less than $5000. That is full coverage no deductible, kept in garage, etc. Price will obviously go up as the truck is improved.

Is Haggerty an underwriter for classic insurance?

I've never heard of a Hagerty policy that had mileage limits...maybe I'm wrong.

Thats what they told me when I signed the papers. I don't care much, I doubt I will exceed that anytime soon.
