cut radiator straps? (1 more post to go too)

I put this new 4 core in a few weeks ago - can't tell if I should leave the bands on it or cut them? They LOOK like steel banding on stuff that gets palleted. Do I cut 'em or do they need to stay on?

I had a plymouth that one of those straps rusted at the top & then flapped back and fourth off of the fan & the rad itself. Caused a bizzare sound & a hole in the rad very soon after.

Re: cut radiator straps? (1 more post to go too)

those bands were used in the process of building the core, it is not needed and the above is a good reason to chop them off.
And afterr reading that story, I now need to cut those straps off the core in my burb.

Re: cut radiator straps? (1 more post to go too)

I was told that you need them. It possibly will warp and crack from heating and cooling. the straps are intended to keep the top and bottom of the core from coming apart. Cut mine before i heard this though.....oh well
