Confused
My GMC Yukon is titled 1999. But it has the 1998 body style. I am having trouble getting the right parts for it. I also want a service manual for it but don't know what to order. Please, any help is appreciated . Thanks

99 being a switchover year in bodystyles creates confusion. My buddy had a 2000 1-ton truck (98 bodystyle) & we always ordered parts for a 98 to eliminate confusion. Last edited by JWall; 02-27-2019 at 12:07 PM. |

Re: Confused
the yukons and suburban ran the obs body style until 1999 or 2001 iirc. they were the same from 1995 till the cut off, if I were you I would order for a 98 Yukon, as they should be the same parts.

Re: Confused
I had a similar issue when I had my 2007 OBS Silverado, another crossover year. I just ordered for the 2006 Model. Worked fine

Re: Confused
I had a 1999 Tahoe, it was an early model, mid year the body style changed, I always told the parts store it was a "1999 early model" and never got the wrong parts. I can't say this about a Yukon but I would guess it's the same.

Re: Confused
The 2000 C2500's can be GMT400 chassis as well...
My 2000 C2500 GMC C2500 work truck has a 6.5L diesel. I don't think any of the SUVs were T800 series til 2001 or 2002. Try explaining this to the 18hour per week counter kid at O'Riley or AutoZone or ... Tell them you have a 2000 with a diesel and they key in the dirytmax.

Re: Confused
Huh? 88-98's have always been OBS. 99+ gen was NBS.

Re: Confused
I was just using my experience as an example Tom, even though it was from a different year group. They reused OBS (sometime called classic) /NBS naming convention again for the 2007 year when they changed models mid year. Did not mean to cause confusion.

Re: Confused
That's the exact uninformed reaction I get when buying 6.5L diesel parts for my 2000 GMC C2500.
Some RV squares continued through 1991 in the SUV, 20, & 30 series. After GM started building the T400 trucks for 1988. Some of the T400's continued through 2001. GM started building T800 trucks for 1999. 2007 is a tighter transition but GM built T800 & T900 trucks for the 2007 model year.

Re: Confused
My father has the same problem. 1999 Sierra Classic. Everywhere you look says it should have a 5.3, but it has a 5.0. Just order parts for a 98.

T400 trucks are not just 88-98 and squarebodies are not just 73-87. 2007 is a year with both T800 & T900 production. No mention of T400 in that sentence. Not sure where the grey market Central American trucks got into the act... I made no mention of them. Apparently you need to beware buying parts for those but that shouldn't be a shock. What's mildly annoying is that I have to play weird games with the parts guys lest they sell me the wrong ones and sometimes they argue with me about selling me the parts I need. BTW GM continued to change things... some 1998 parts are not the right fit on a 2000 T400.

Re: Confused
I have a 2000 K3500 crew cab short box that is old body style and the new to us 99 C3500 crew cab long box that is also GMT400 style both are 7.4/4L80E trucks and yesterday I found out the 99 C3500 uses 99-07 upper ball joints and 88-98 lower ball joints. So much for easy part finding, bring old parts along to O Reilly’s
