new exhaust heat riser ?

I'm putting in a brand new exhaust manifold on my 65 292, i am wondering should I lube the heat riser shaft before i install the manifolds?
I am thinking i could do a better lube with the manifold on the bench.
but I am also thinking why gunk up the shaft with grease until it does stick and needs lube?
what would you do?

Re: new exhaust heat riser ?

It doesn't get lube.
Exhaust heat would bake any grease you use.

Re: new exhaust heat riser ?

Use the wiggle method...wiggle it every now and than to keep it from sticking....

thanks, no lube and occasional wiggle sounds like the best plan.

Every time you run your motor it will wiggle itself. LOL!!
You should be able to hear it rattling when you blip the throttle.

Some dry graphite wouldn't hurt.
