6 lug vs 5 lug

So I have a 70 C 10 six lug four wheel drum Power. I was thinking about just converting the front to a disk with 2 1/2 inch drop spindles and 4 inch lowering springs in the rear and staying six lug. Should I look to get a late 70s early 80s pick up and pull all the running gear out and convert to five lug?

Drill your axles or buy new axles is an option also. I converted front and back to 5 lug because I would like to run torque thrust wheels some day.

Re: 6 lug vs 5 lug

I feel like just putting a disk brake conversion in the front would be the easiest and keeping it 6 lug....

Re: 6 lug vs 5 lug

I did the 6 to 5 lug because of wheel selection. Then started looking and found a lot of nice wheels for 6 lug. If I had to do it again I would have just put disc on.

Most 70 rear axles are wide enough so that you can put the five lug axles from a 71 through 81 12 bolt truck in them. The easiest way to tell is measure from backing plate to backing plate and it should be around 57 inches.
