Fan shroud 1977 engine swap into 69 gmc 1/2t 2wd

The shroud I had from my 307 non ac 69 gmc 1/2t won’t fit with the 77 engine and fan set up. Old was short water pump now it’s long..

can this be solved with a new shroud?
Does anyone know what wil fit?
Or do I need a new fan or should I just go with electric fans?

Thanks everyone

Can't imagine an inch or so making that big a difference. Will the fan from the 307 work on the new motor?

If the shroud isn't a "show piece" you can always "egg" the holes and put a washer between the shroud and the screw head, then set the shroud where you want. That's what I had to do with mine.

This is assuming the water pump is the issue and not the fan diameter.

I went to a clutch fan which is definitely from a later model, and my shroud worked with a little adjustment. I did use a short water pump in both applications though.

If the original engine and accessory drive pieces were in the truck when you got it, why would you not go back with all of those pieces?

In the future, either you are a different care taker will be unhappy that you switched front the SWP setup. And besides, that will fix any shroud/fan issues that were created by move to LWP pieces.

What he said. No reason to change over to the long style pump ,just retain all of your original accessory drive from the 307 and your problems are solved. And yes the short style pump will take a clutch drive fan as well.

I didn’t foresee this issue and I disposed of the original motor a few months ago..

Personally I would just pay the money and purchase all the correct components on the used parts board here on the forums and put it back to stock. For future parts replacement everything will be correct to the truck and zero fittiment issues whatsoever. I’ll go one step further and say it even helps the resale value of the truck. When I’m looking at one of these trucks for sale it’s a real notch up to see under the hood and components are original and unaltered.
