1957 gas tank

I just ran out of gas and I filled it up 14 gallons. I've seen some new tanks advertised at 15 gal and others at 17 gal, what size are they? Maybe 2 sizes?

There are several different sizes. Mine's a 17 gallon, but they go up 25 .

Re: 1957 gas tank

Just because you ran out doesn't mean the tank was bone dry...there could easily be a couple gallons below the pickup tube...depending on how long it is.....I've seen the old farmers trick of cutting the pickup tube off shorter when a tank gets rusty and trashy inside to keep from pumping junk thru the carb....

Re: 1957 gas tank

My question is what size are original behind the seat tanks, 14/15 or 17?

Re: 1957 gas tank

flat tanks are typically 15-17 gal
step up tanks are 20-25, mine is 22 gal i believe. step up tanks require the rear x-member moved
i run out of gas with a 16 gal fill, go figure
