How to remove dash defrost vents ??

I'm getting ready to paint the inside of my cab.

How are the circular defrost vents removed from the top of the dash, without breaking them, they seem to be very tightly attached.

Thanks

Look underneath, you will see the tabs. They need to rotate until the tabs meet the slots in the metal, then they come out.

On my '60 GMC, each one had two small screws used with speed clips. The screws are under the lower windshiled rubber.
