How much paint required to paint my truck?
Hey, I'm getting close to painting my truck and not sure how much paint to buy.
My truck is a 67 gmc long box fleet and it is completely blown apart. Will be doing a base clear paint job. Would hate to run out but at the same time don't need a bunch of left over material left over. Thanks.

Re: How much paint required to paint my truck?
I've commented on a few threads like this before. Typically people will respond with the following question...depending on your experience painting.
General consensus was 2 gallons

Re: How much paint required to paint my truck?
I did a search and found one thread with that suggestion. That's what i thought but figured i would ask around before spending the cash.
Thanks.

Re: How much paint required to paint my truck?
I agree that 2 gallons should do it. But, since you are asking, probably not.
It "ALWAYS TAKES ME MORE THAN IT SHOULD". Sometimes it's because I use more than I should and sometimes it's because I have to repaint something I am not happy with. Maybe it's just me?

You're going to get all kind of answers to a question like that, so allow me to suggest you contact Eastwood. They've got one of the best "help" crews I've ever dealt with. Of course they'll ask you several questions to help them make a determination.

In Winnipeg (Canada) you're forced to go VOC compliant which means the Eastwood and other paints available in the USA are not available to you. You might consider BASF UNO single stage and clear it, which is the way I'm going as I've chosen a solid colour. Just remember that there is no such thing as good, cheap paint.

Re: How much paint required to paint my truck?
I'm currently painting a 79 C-30 dump for my dad.
one thing to remember- if your base coat mixing ratio is 1:1 then i gallon of paint makes 2 sprayable gallons. Same goes with the clear. Right now for me to paint the entire cab and front clip- I sprayed inside the cab, firewall, everything- its going to take 1 gallon of paint and 1 gallon of clear (but again each makes 2 sprayable gallons) dump bed is much larger than a pickup bed. I used a single stage on it, sprayed everything but underneath, and it took me just under 1.5 sprayable gallons. so if I was painting the entire truck I'd buy 2 gallons. |

Re: How much paint required to paint my truck?
Omni will need three or four coats compared to two coats of their (or other top brand) paint.
You're not saving any time or money buying Omni. Your call, but remember there's no such thing as good, cheap paint. Trust me when I tell you, the last place you should try to save money is on paint. It is EVERYTHING that everyone sees. After all the time and energy getting it to the final paint stage doesn't deserve a second tier paint. All paint companies have second tier paint so before folks go nuts on me for dissing Omni, it's not a PPG thing I have, it's anyone's second tier paint that sucks for coverage because it's watered down good stuff.
