manifold plugs

Anyone know what the thread for holes in stock manifolds where smog crap tubes use to be is. Mine have been plugged,o how I blew one out and need to plug it. 7/16 coarse threads into it,1/4 pipe will not.Has to be similar to pipe to seal off. Have loys of odd stuff laying around, nothing fits perfectly. other plugs do not want to be removed.

Re: manifold plugs

I do not know for sure what the thread diameter and pitch is, but it seems to me they are something odd ball. That is why most people cut the ends off of the smog tubes and either crimp them or weld them shut and reinstall them to plug the holes in the manifolds.

Re: manifold plugs

I've used inverted flare plugs to replace them.
Here's an example.

Re: manifold plugs

Will look for inverted flare first. If not then pulling, drilling and tapping. If so doing all four since manifold will alreadt be on Bridgeport and almost new tapmatic will be in service, not lazy but not stupid. If possible let electric do the hard work.LOL

Re: manifold plugs

Heck spent 3 hours grinding the stupid humps out that GM had inside manifolds since can't change to headers because new 4l80e need computer before can install and have to do trans to make headers work. Clutch linakge in the way. Should have been born rich instead of great looking, brillant and modest.

Re: manifold plugs

I don't know if they differ between manifolds but I have one in my garage and checked the size with a thread chaser. It is 1/2 - 13NC.

Re: manifold plugs

Must be different ones.
My bad should have stated. These are off mid 70's bbc. My grinding may have loosened old one. Then why would anyone cast a manifold with those huge flow killing humps in them, as if manifolds don't suck flow wise to start with.

Re: manifold plugs

You want a tubing plug. Most auto part and hardware stores will have them
