Gauges dropping out?

The other day my wife told methere gauges in our 05' Silverado kept dropping out then going back to normal. Sure enough when i drove it the gauges did it a few times too me as well. The Fuel, temp and oil pressure gauge needles would drop to nothing then go back to normal a few seconds later. Then the fuel gauge itself would do it. Any one have a idea of what it could be. It's an 05' silverado just shy of 40,000 km's.

Not sure if it is applicable to your 05 but, there was a campaign to replace the instrument cluster on the 04s. May be worthwhile to check at the dealer to see if yours has an open campaign.

Re: Gauges dropping out?

Would it apply to the '03 too? Is a "campaign" the same as a recall?

My odometer stopped displaying today and my speedo occasionally shows my speed being higher than it actual is (It will show a constant ~10mph high until I turn the truck off and back on).

Re: Gauges dropping out?

Gm actually did a recall on the gauge clusters. I don't know what all years were covered, but my 03 Sierra was included. However I had 75,000 miles on the truck at the time, and the recall only covered up to 70,000.

Call your local dealer and they will help you out with it. New cluster costs about $300 IIRC

Re: Gauges dropping out?

Bugger. It covers what the gauges are doing, but I've got 105k miles. The Odometer may be an entirely unrelated issue.
