For a project build 55-59 or 67-72 - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Sure some of you may be biased one way or another, so figure I'd pose this to people who may have both. But for a novice rebuilder just starting out, which year of truck did you think was easier to rebuild? Either to just get it up and running or a real head turner? I have a 69 c10 that needs a lot of work and as I've been hovering around these forums I've fallen in love with the 55-59 models. So, I may stay with the sixty/seventies or hang out in the late fiftys. What do you think?

I think the 67/72 will be easier and cheaper to build but it sounds kind of like you would prefer a late 50s especially since you chose this side of the board to post on your best bet is just figure out what you want more when done and go for it

It depends on the truck that you start with. Sheetmetal is aLOT cheaper for the 67-72 trucks. If you can find a 55-59 truck that dont need much sheetmetal work. They would be about the same to build. For the first timer I would buy the best core I could aford.

55-59 will look better always in my opinion but i have seen some 67-72's that made me drool so thats for you to decide but as for working on i would say the later probably for ease of finding parts because it took me forever to get my 55's body together but a 68' my friend has was a one weekend deal and it is on the road

I have had a few 72 short beds I built in the past. Both truck are rather easy to work on. The 1967 to 1972 parts are a bit easyer to come by, but the 1955 to 1959 parts are getting easyer to come by also. So the bottom line comes down to which body style you like best. I love the 67 to 72, it was and is one of the best looking trucks on the road. But for me, I love the looks of the 1955 to 1959 better, it's got more of a classic look. So since I have had both and both are really cool in my opinion and if I was to start a new project it would be hands down a 1955 to 1959.

The 67-72 already has better suspension than the 50's, disc brakes, or at least you can bolt them on, and parts are easier to find. The 50's, you can get good suspension, but it will cost more, and be more work. Build what you like best, there are both great, but on a budget, the 67-72 might be easier.
