Wheel hop

So i have a 68 short-bed step-side i put a 9 inch rear 500hp 402 5 speed tremec .Needless to say no traction and horrible wheel hop .It has the leaf spring set up now just looking for some tips to get traction on a budget .Traction bars cal tracs ?Or bight the bullet and do a four link ? Lowered 4 and 4 now.Thanks Oz

I would try the caltracs first, and transfer any weight that you can to the rear.

Beyond that, 4 link, coil overs, and sticky tires.

That's one good thing about the coil rear trucks. Traction bars are your quick fix. Is the axle over the springs for your 4" drop? That helps wrap compared to axle under springs. McGauphy's offers a reasonable solution

I used this design made by someone else in the '80s on a 500 hp '71 Blazer with 4" blocks and 37" Swampers (TH350). They took the wrap out. But that truck got run hard in the mud, not on dry pavement and that was an automatic. Still, that's what they'll do with blocks and tall tires.

I find traction bars work reasonably well but most people don't set them up properly and give them a bad rap . its been a while but the rubber snubber is supposed to be something like 3/4 inch and closer from the spring in gear . I have seen 2 to 4 inches on cars almost to the point where they should dig the pavement at a big enough pot hole . they need to be close enough to the spring to pull the rear end back down to the pavement when the spring starts to wrap up this eliminating the hop . I have used plate steel to shim them up not at the snuber but at the part where the ubolt bolts them to the spring . I have also eliminated the ubolt and used a plate on top of the spring and grade 8 bolts because the ubolts can break especially on anything more than stock horsepower levels . good luck on whatever you try

Cool thanks im going to try traction bars first set up right then four link if necessary.Thanks everyone for all of the input thats what i love about this forum
