Question: Were some Vent Widows trimmed in Chrome and some not?

I thought all vent windows were trimmed in chrome ...

I found a set on my shelves ... not trimmed in chrome

Is that the way they came or is the trim piece missing?

Thanks

Came both ways depending on trim level.

Re: Question: Were some Vent Widows trimmed in Chrome and some not?

67-72 base trim tricks got painted black wing vents. The same trucks that got no trim on windshield or back window, and also not side trim on body.

Re: Question: Were some Vent Widows trimmed in Chrome and some not?

I never considered that before. My truck is a CST and has chrome wing windows, but no chrome trim on the windshield, and never has in the 40 years I've been around it. I guess it is conceivable that the windshield was replaced without the trim before 1980, as the gasket had no groove. I put in a new gasket when I painted the roof many years ago. The back widow is long gone because of the boot and pass-through to the bed.

Re: Question: Were some Vent Widows trimmed in Chrome and some not?

Yep. Should have had the windshield trim if it's a CST. One other thing on this. Any truck that came with a factory slider would NOT have the trim on rear window.

Re: Question: Were some Vent Widows trimmed in Chrome and some not?

Well, I have no idea about a factory slider. It's not on the SPID. The back window was removed when the camper shell was put on, AFAIK. I'm told that my FiL bought it without a shell. I'm hard pressed to believe that the windshield had been replaced within the first few years of the truck's life, but the bed is tweaked about 3/8" out of square (which I discovered when the new camper shell was installed, because it was on crooked and the installers didn't catch it) and missing the "Longhorn" emblems. Could be it got in a crash? 3/8" out of square isn't a big deal, but coupled with the missing emblems, I have my suspicions. I'm not looking to sell, and the truck is fine other than some minor things.

Re: Question: Were some Vent Widows trimmed in Chrome and some not?

I guess it could be possible a truck that was supposed to get a trimmed windshield didn't when it rolled through assembly. But it was supposed to get one if it didn't. That would be more rare than a Corvette engine!

Mine had black painted vent windows but had the chrome bead on the channel felt and the fuzzies.

My 72 CSCC has the rear slider on the SPID and has the stainless trim around the slider

Re: Question: Were some Vent Widows trimmed in Chrome and some not?

As far as slider rear windows and even AM/FM radios many options were installed at the dealer which would lead to multiple install differences .

Re: Question: Were some Vent Widows trimmed in Chrome and some not?

Sorry to hijack this thread with a question but...

Can anyone tell me if that vent window trim can be bought separately to add on to an existing black vent window, or do you have to purchase the whole vent window assembly?

Haven't found just the trim in the Chevy parts dealers catalogs yet.

ETA: ...nevermind, I just priced some vent window assemblies.

$$$ WHEW!

How about some cheap plastic chrome something or other that you'd never notice I glued on there.

Re: Question: Were some Vent Widows trimmed in Chrome and some not?

It's not trim on the vent window, it is the actual frame.

bones 72 Super, you slider may not be the original one that came with the truck. I have installed sliders in Cheyennes that didn't have one originally and retained the trim. Sliders were not installed on the assembly line. They were installed on the factory lot after truck completed the assembly line. I imagine that meant the trimmed trucks came through with nothing installed. But if one slipped through where someone had mistakenly installed a rear window, I image the gasket with trim might have been used.

Can you post a photo of these?

Also curious how someone would go about restoring a set of black vent windows. Mine are now "rust colored".

Re: Question: Were some Vent Widows trimmed in Chrome and some not?

I am personally responsible for more than one mid-90’s Astro van that left the factory with a GMC emblem on the back door. My dream is that 20 years from now I will get to go on the Astro/Safari resto forum and hear guys wondering how the heck it happened

Also test drove a GMC S15 Jimmy once with a Chevy bowtie on the steering wheel.
