Astro Van front clip?

Hey guys, I was looking at a astro van front end i have laying around (has a 4.3 i need to pull) and am wondering if anyone has installed one of these in our trucks? From what i can tell there very similiar to an S-10 beside the steering box? I tryed searching and found nothing, so is this a possible option?

Re: Astro Van front clip?

they have a 5on 5 bolt pattern. i think the clip will be too short as the van has a shorter nose than the s10. so you will have to addto the front of the clip. the engine sits a little farther forward in the astro clip compaired to the s10 or camaro. also it is a little wider than the s10 or camaro clip. hope this helps.

Re: Astro Van front clip?

My daily is a 94 Astro. 5x5 bolt pattern is correct. I can see if I can get axle width for you, but they are not supposed to be great for handling any real power. They have the "gov/lock" differential.

Re: Astro Van front clip?

Hub to Hub with on the Astro vans is right at 62-1/2 inches which is pretty wide for most older rigs.

Probably the best thing to do is jack the truck up, pull off the front wheels and measure the width from mounting surface on one hub to mounting surface on the other hub. That will give you a base measurement to go by.

Then you need to add the wheel tire combination you plan to run into the equation. Will the setup you want to run fit? Next, do the wheels you want to run come in the 5 on 5 bolt pattern?

Most were 5 on 4.5 .

If you were to order a 9" from Currie you can get different patterns. Call and ask about all the options they offer for their 9".

Re: Astro Van front clip?

If you are looking at a used 9" you can have the bolt pattern redrilled. Mine was a 5 x 5.5 and had it redrilled to 5 x 4.75. it was only $75 to get it done locally. I have less then $300 invested in it with disc brakes.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman, "Where's the self-help section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Yeah that works. I did that to the flywheel in my jeep went from a tiny 9" Ford clutch to a 11" gm.I drilled and reamed & taped the holes on a bridgeport mill and had the surface ground flat.
