Which black for door panel restoration?

Okay, so, before it is stated, I did search, and search and search. I didn't find it. I would like to restore the color on my black door panels. From what I hear SEP makes a pretty good product. I though I'd go that route (unless someone has a better solution). From what I understand, I need to use an adhesion promoter first, and make sure they are really clean. I've looked at a few different online suppliers and there are several different blacks available from SEM. Can anyone please tell me which would provide the most original look? Also, if anyone has done this with good results, could you please let me know which prep products I should by. Part numbers would be awesome. Also how much of each product would I need to do two door panels. I am not changing colors. The panels are already black, but just faded. Final question... should some sort of clear be applied at the end? Thanks for any and all help that may come my way.

I did the SEM black with adheasion promoter and i already have a bunch of scratches after 1 year, i scrubbed them using dawn dishwashing liquid first. Not sure if i didn't do something wrong or what, but a lot of people are using it. I read a couple threads where somebody used a spray on bed liner some time back.

Thanks for the reply. That's exactly what I don't want. I don't want it scratching off. I have two sets, one with only a little fading. They are maybe an 8 out of 10 as far as quality overall. They other set is really nice but faded much more than the first set. I was going to try to recolor the faded set because as far as scratches or anything else, they are probably in better shape.

I used SEM 39143, they came out nice. I prepped them with SEM wax and grease remover.

I've had real good luck with mar-Hyde brand, very durable stuff.

If you go to SEM's website -- http://www.semproducts.com -- they have "How-to" videos" that are very good.

When I did my door panels, I took them to the bathtub and cleaned them very good with dish soap. Then used "Plastic Adhesion Promoter" -- http://www.semproducts.com/automotiv...esion-promoter -- followed by SEM Color Coat -- http://www.semproducts.com/automotiv...oattm-aerosols.

Make sure you get everything REAL clean then follow the directions and take your time and you should be good to go. I did mine three years ago and they still look great.

Thanks. I did look at those videos already, but got a bit confused because I wasn't sure which type of plastic we had, etc. They offer a lot of products for different materials. I see that you used the "Plastic Adhesion Promoter". From what I understand this along with starting with everything absolutely clean are the keys. After watching the video, I wasn't sure it the adhesion promoter was right for the plastic on our door panels. If you used it with good results, then I'm sure it will work for me as well. I see that most of the companies making a similar product also have an adhesion promoter. Thanks again.
p.s. Are your panels black, and if so, which black did you use? Any pics that you can include?
