rear end question

so its on my 68 half ton gmc frame. the rear end is a 12 bolt late 70s early 80s chevy. the rear end is centered but the pinion is not centered. i was told some rear ends are offset like an inch or the pumpkin is bigger on one side or something like that. is this right or is it ok?

Re: rear end question

The way the ring and pinion are made into the rear axle versus trying to keep both axles the same length for production cost it is easier to off set the center slightly than have left and right axles.
