Bumper guard purpose.

My dad told me that the big bumper guards (such as our trucks could have been ordered with) were really meant to push other vehicles. What say you guys?

Re: Bumper guard purpose.

not really...they were more of a dress up accessory that prevented people who back parked by braille from sticking their bumper through your grille...if you wanted to push cars you put on a push plate bumper like tow trucks used

Re: Bumper guard purpose.

They were probably for both and in some cases also for decoration (and a little extra tacked on the cost of the vehicle). I remember pushing cars with these and you usually wanted to make sure that the guard was the part doing the pushing.

Wink Re: Bumper guard purpose.

The intended pupose was for safety in a parking lot bump up as stated. If someone backed into your truck it hit the rubber guard first depending on angle. Hopefully not causing any harm to the truck.
But they also became popular dress up items as well.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
