How To Make Your Truck Backfire.

first let me say that I have learned so much from this Forum that I thought I would give back, so I would now like to teach you how to make your perfectly good truck backfire, this is a sure method

take spark plug wires #5 and #7 and swap them, so wire #5 goes on plug #7 and wire #7 goes on plug #5 (in other words just swap the last two on the driver side closest to the firewall)

now when you fire up your engine it may sound all nice and good, but wait till you accelerate from that first stop sign - Whalla Putt Putt Putt !!!

Re: How To Make Your Truck Backfire.

That is how i got my 82 for free. the guy said they had it running a few times but it kept dieing so he pushed it out behind his house and let it set for 5 years or so till the city told him to move it.

He told me if i could get it out of his yard before the city towed it i could have it. So you bet your ass i called my buddy up and we moved it that night.

The next morning pop the hood check things out drop in a new battery fresh fluids, and new gas. By the end of the night i found out all the truck needed was to swap 5 and 7 plug wires and a new fuel pump, it is now my DD.

She may be ugly but shes mine.

Actually there is an easier way. We used to do this in H/S. you accelerate to about 35 mph then turn the key off. now pump the gas a couple of times while coasting down in gear to about 20mph. then turn the key on. all the fuel in the exhaust system ignites. It makes a very nice boom and if you had pumped the pedal enough while coasting it will throw some nice flames out the pipes. But you do run the risk of making your mufflers look pregnant . LOL

I played a similar joke on my first wife. She had a 72 Monte Carlo she just loved. So it was time to give it a tune up. so I tell I'll do it on a Saturday. So Saturday comes she worked so she just caught a ride from her sister in law. So I immediately call a buddy to bring over as much SBC engine parts as he can find, I had Ford stuff not Chevy. He drops the stuff off. a set of junk heads, a couple of pistons, manifolds, cam, and enough small stuff to make it look very convincing that I tore her engine down. I laid all the stuff around her car then set it up on 4 jack stands. left the hood ajar too. then went to work on my projects. When she came home she went through the roof. Screaming what happened to her car. I told her it did not have enough power for my taste and so I was fixing it and it would take 2 weeks. the look on her face was priceless. then before she could say anything else i asked her to listen to this and I reached in and turn the key fired right up and purred like a 350 should. then I said "April fools" which I immediately got "the look". so she pops the hood and sees a complete tuned up engine with new chrome valve covers on it.

Speaking from experience? Flowmasters did not exist in the mid 70's. We did rip open a few muffler seams doing that though.
