2wd to 4wd frame swap question

Have a 72 3/4 ton 2 wheel drive longbed. Question is will a 73-87 4 wheel drive frame work. If so what mods to the frame are needed to be done? Thanks in advance

See if you can find the wheel base on both trucks,I think the newer truck frame is longer but it might just be me.

Yeah I'll do some research. Just looking for some heads up info or what my best options are.

Re: 2wd to 4wd frame swap question

Longbed, This comes up frequently. The later frame rises up to clear the saddle tanks. The later frame is 5 3/4 inches (IIRC) longer. To do it right you'll really need to cut the "rise" out of the frame, then set the length and go from there. By cutting the rise out you'll need to figure how to cut it to straighten it then shorten to proper length. Measure the length for yourself to be sure. You'll also have to relocate the cab mounts, IIRC. Been decades since I did one. Will never do another. Good luck. YMMV
