I think Jesus, like you, has a sense of humor on Easter. It is snowing like the dickens here in SE Nebraska, and that aint no joke! This axle was supposed to be a simple inspect/clean-up for a 1980 K20 with a fuel injected 496 BBC under the hood. These farm kids spare no expense on their trucks! Brakes were so corroded I had to cut the pins and slack adjusters to release the drums...$$$

Your kinda losin me here Mongo. I'm a 1/2 ton kinda guy, this 3/4 ton stuff is all new to me...Are you sayin a gov loc and Detroit look alike except for the cross pins? This thing has little screen openings, I haven't rotated and counted the pins..."Yet"...I'm thinking these 14-bolt free floaters would be a bullet proof drag axle! Time for a baked ham dinner, be back later...Thanks for the heads up Mongo, Happy Easter bro...

Re: 14-Bolt Traction Device ID...

This thing is indeed a gov-loc...I have never seen the inside of one of these but from what I'm reading and seeing, they're not worth the effort and expense of rebuilding? Most get welded for off road use and replaced for street use...The bearings and races are pitted in each hub, I had to cut the pins and remove the anchor bolts with wheel cylinders from the backing plates to remove the drums. Both sides are a complete rebuild, I'm pretty sure the carrier bearings are pitted as well. Thanks again Mongo and KW

Re: 14-Bolt Traction Device ID...

actually from what ive read the 14b govlok is a much better unit than the smaller versions...but I havnt had any issues with govloks in my zr2 or z71s...I did rebuild one in my old 80s square s-blazer yrs ago...wasn't hard at all
they do have a bad rep though [often called grenade-lok]...but to change to anything else will require a carrier swap I think...

Re: 14-Bolt Traction Device ID...

Honestly I wouldn't put a Gov-bomb behind an injected 496. Probably should go with a Detroit locker.

Re: 14-Bolt Traction Device ID...

Doesn't look anything like the gov-lock in my 14 bolt, if it has a device I would think its a Detroit locker. Does it jump a little when you go around a tight corner, hard to tell if its a locker for sure unless you open up the spool.
