I never got that either, or the wearing a cap sideways look.

Re: The cat in the hat

I wear my welders caps backwards when I'm working on stuff, even with no welding going on. I guess it's a habit. The bill hits things and knocks the hat off when working under or in close quarters. The bills are small enough that when on backwards laying on my back they don't flip off my head like a ball cap would. I wear them to keep from getting grease and oil in my hair. Mostly it's just a thing to get me in the groove

I think turning it around out of necessity is completely different.

That old time grease monkey gasoline alley Goober of Mayberry ace with a wrench mindset. I suppose it's functional fashion. Much the same as a guy turns his cap around after he hands you his beer in preparation of commencing an impressively idiotic feat... only different

Do rednecks and meatheads wear beanies backwards, too??

Re: The cat in the hat

Had to get the ole beanie out at so called Spring Carlisle. Coulda gotten away with calling it Winter Carlisle up till Friday... ccccold night Thursday. Got to 22 that night. Hanging out w/o a fire all evening dropping through the 30s had us digging out all we brought and putting it on. Getting coffee an' a samich 7am. I had long john top, t-shirt, HD chamois shirt, Carhart insulated vest, and insulated hooded jacket...and gloves!

I hope this is the last time I wear it till next winter
