Transmission Hump - Stamped not Spot Welded?

I am going to need to change my transmission hump from a low hump to a high hump and have been reading that the floor piece should be bolted or spot welded. The firewall section would be spot welded.

In looking at mine, it looks like it's stamped into the floor and firewall, there are no bolts and I can't find any spot welds or feel anywhere there should be a seam. Is this normal for a '65 C10?

My '66 low hump is like that too, just part of the floor.

You could make it raised, and spot weld it in much like I did here:



The low-humps are just the way the floor is stamped. The high-humps are bolted in so they can be removed to get the transmission out. If you're running a more modern trans, I don't think you need to make it removable.

Doing something that will have some ask "Why?". 1956 Chrysler New Yorker 331 Hemi with an A727 Torqueflite transmission with a floor shift.

Because I needed an engine rebuild and had these already rebuilt and sitting from an abandoned project car. The transmission sits in the truck with the floor cut out as shown. Just trying to get the floor somewhat original and want to use stock carpet rather than have it custom sewn. Either way it'd probably come out about the same price.

Did you have to raise the section under the seat? I'm looking to raise the section between the seat and firewall. Are you lowering your truck?

I raised the section under the seat because I had to raise the "X" on my '61 to ride considerably lowered.

While it is a different part of the floor, the process and procedure is exactly the same.

Same as SkinnyG.... My truck has been built w/a very low ride height which has the drivetrain & driveline higher within the chassis requiring additional floor clearance.

At least some if not all 60-63 low hump trucks had bolt in low humps, I’ve owned several and never came across a 64-66 with a bolt in low hump however.

The lower hump can be either spot welded or bolted, the upper section has (at least on mine) 29 friggin' spot weld in less than 2 ft. I had to remove that because I did the swap with the engine in. I tried to use spot weld cutters, the metal just laughed at me after wearing two of them out. I had to drill them out.
