Re: window felt install?

The one that goes around the top and back just pushes in.I used a little dab of weatherstrip adhesive to keep it from moving/sliding down. The one that goes on the back of the wing window is a little more complicated,Remove the wing window and look in the track. It has some rivets holding it in.I drilled them out then just pulled it loose with a pair of needle nose pliers.I cleaned the track well then put the new one in place and drilled it for new rivets. That is where a little ingenuity came in.My rivet gun would not fit into the channel. The heads of the rivets need to go on the felt side of it.I finally figured out to cut a short piece of copper tubing and put over the pin of the rivet. This made it where I could seat the rivet in the bottom of the channel and rivet it tight.I have never done the rubbers on the vent window but understand they are a pain.
When you finish, use some spray silicone on the felts and work the windows up and down a few times. The silicone will make it work much smoother than if it were dry.

Re: window felt install?

The Chiltons manual has a pretty good description.

When I did mine instead of re-riveting I just used weather strip adhesive to glue it back in. Also after installation the windows were a little stiff to go up and down so I put a little bit of bearing grease in the tracks and now they are smooth as silk.

Re: window felt install?

Are you talking about the window channel felt....or the window sweeps?

If it is the channel felt, they got you covered above. If it is the inner/outer sweeps you are talking about, they have small clips that hold them to the door. Roll the window down and you can use a screwdriver to carefully pry them up and out. To install a new one, line it up straight and pop in each clip on the door. In all likelihood, you will destroy the old ones coming out. That is ok, just be careful not to damage/bend the slots in the door that retain them.

The inner and outer pieces that sandwich the window in the door. The inner sweep is a "fuzzy" The outer sweep is rubber.

Re: window felt install?

Hard to believe I asked this in 2011 and was googling how to do this because I've yet to do it and my own post came up I've finally had enough of the windows rattling
