Corvair thread for special k's pics

Here you go Tim, post them up!

Did you ever see the old GM promo films where they were ramping the corvairs and driving them on 2 wheels? Pretty much proved that they were stable I think

When I was a kid my Dad restored a 63 greenbriar van for my mom to drive, she hated it but man I sure did love it. I still have it.

Re: Corvair thread for special k's pics

I am a big Corvair fan myself. Whenevr the C10 is done, that's the car I'll be looking at. a 65-69 coupe.

I've had a 64 Monza Spyder, 66 Monza and a 65 Monza.

I think the 56-69 2 door coupe has such beautiful lines.

Back in the mid-late 60's I had a GF that had one.
I used to "pitch" that thing sideways on a regular basis.

Re: Corvair thread for special k's pics

I think the 2nd gen is a great body, too.I see alot of the Corvair in the Camaro body.I got to drive a`64 Monza my father had for awhile.I likes them, too. His was silver w/black interior. It had the Powerglide.I guess that`s what it was.It was a 2spd automatic, shifted on dash.I see the`61 Chevy in the 1st gens. They called VWs Bugs.I guess Corvairs were Guinee Pigs.
The Spyder convertibles have counterweights in the four corners of the body.I`ll start with 1st gen drop tops:

I like this one alot:

Nice view:

Re: Corvair thread for special k's pics

I am so kicking myself for not taking any pictures of the vairs I had! I hear ya specialK! IMO the Corvair was a dream to drive compared to the Vdubs, but then the Vdubs had their own qualities!
My last vair was a 65 Monza 110 with a powerglide... Yea, big yawn... LOL
I bought the car from a neighbor who was the original owner, and it was clean and was an easy resto. I picked it up and did a mild resto on it, tuned it up and put some new tires on it. I ended up keeping it longer than some of the Camaro's I had at the time, since it was small and easy on fuel and no one bugged me in it.
That car was so easy and smooth to drive, and it would make me laugh everytime it shifted into second.
Funny thing to... That car converted my GF at the time into a Corvair nut! LOL After her and I split, she got all into Corvairs. We just recently got back in touch after years apart, and she shared pictures of her Corvairs that she forced her new husband to buy her! LMAO. Some of them are pretty frickin cool too. I will ask her to send some picks and I will post em.

My Corvair. Sold it awhile back and bought Ol' Blue with some of the proceeds.

250 hp, 265 ft-lb torque big bore roller motor - it hauled a$$. Autocrossing it with the slicks was too much fun.

Re: Corvair thread for special k's pics

I had a Loadside and a 66 Corsa Coupe and Conv. with factor Air. I was involved in Corsa and the Dayton Ohio club. But I lost interest. I never had the enthusiasm for the Corvair as I do my 70cst. To be frank...the guys and gals in this truck hobby are much more down to earth. Maybe the reason that I am more fond of our trucks is because I grew up driving trucks on the farm. JMHO

Re: Corvair thread for special k's pics

Yeah, the Corvair crowd got going back in the early`70s,not long after production ceased. So,I imagine there`s some chroney-headed stuff floatin`around.
Lots of nice Corvairs. It`s Yenko "Stinger!" To those who have never driver or even ridden in a Corvair.it`s really different. It`s so quiet with the motor behind and you feel like the car is floating it is so smooth. The six cylinder was torquey @ no less than 85hp in the earliest standard motor. That`s better than twice a V-Dub`s power at the time. And,a six cylinder just has a smooth hum to them.A horizontally opposed motor is a very powerful configuration compared to others in the same displacement.

I like the Corvair trucks that had the side ramp & rear gate. The grocery store my dad worked at in the early 70's had a red & white one for a delivery truck.
