305V6 & 3-sp --> 350SBC & 4-sp

One of the teens from church called me last night inquiring about me possibly helping him with a "project"...he's got a 1965 lwb 2wd GMC, 305 V6 w/3 on the tree...he's wanting to put a 350 sbc w/4-speed in it (and both of these pieces require a complete rebuild)...honestly, I'm short on time already, but I hate to turn away a kid wanting to learn. I think he'd be better off leaving the truck *as is*, as I don't think it's gonna do what he wants it to do, but whatever...

So, what hard parts are we looking @ for the conversion? Mounts, bellhousing, clutch assembly/linkage/fork, crossmember, etc...??

I swapped a 350 into a '63 back when I was in high school, but it already had a V8 in it, and I've slept a *lot* since then! LOL!!

Thanks!

Actually about the only thing that's the same is the crossmember under the bell housing. Everything else is different, including all of the clutch linkage. He might be easier finding another truck and either use it for parts or fix it up instead. Six cyl or V8 bell housing and engine brackets from a 63-66 Chevy will bolt up, except for the rh bracket for the 292 six. All of the clutch linkage will swap too. He should also keep in mind that the 305 V6 is as heavy as a big block Chevy, and the front end will come up a couple inches with the small block because of the super heavy front springs.

ya those 305 v6's are crazy,just ditch the engine and trans and put 350 engine and th350 its way easyer. I had to do that when I was 16 years old. get engine and tranny mounts and a new floor shifter. Good luck
