Front brake question

Hey guys, quick question I need cleared up for my disc conversion.I have a 68 shortbed. I have front disc's off a 71 , and I have a disc/drum master cylinder and have everything in and bolted down. My question is. I connected the brake hose from the caliper ( 71 caliper ) to the old lines that where stock on my 68 c/10 that where feeding to my old front drums. I am using the same disp valve , do i have to change to a disc drum valve or will I have any problems using the stock valve from the drum/drum on the 68. All the brake lines are the same on the truck exept for the front brake hose coming from the caliper that is from the 71,

Any input from your past experience will help. thanks guys.

If your talking about the per-portioning valve then yes that must be changed to disc drum as it has dif tolerances inside for fluid flow and the disc need dif amounts of fluid over the drums.

Ok , thanks. I will change that. What about the other lines ? That go from the valve to the front brake hose ? can they stay the same ?

They should be the same might route a little dif but long as they hook to the hose I'd run them.

Also , it seems that autozone and all of those places dont sell the proportioning valve , am I pretty much stuck with classic industries/ online ordering ?

im doing similar conversion and planning on getting one from the pick-a-part. cheaper alternative

Honestly you have a few options here. Those aren't known for going bad so if I was you I'd hunt the local junk yard for a truck with one and rob it along with the plug for the brake light warning switch and the mounting brackets.

well i guess im gonna thread jack for a sec just to double check. i put 83 disc brakes on my 70 c20. it already had power brakes so i dont need a new master cylinder do i?

Any time you go from drum to disc weather it's front or rear you need the master to match. So yes if you are going from drum now, to the 83 disc you need to change the master as the bore size is bigger for disc.

That's a darn good question that I don't have an answer for sorry.....on a side not though you should be able to go to your local parts store and have the person pull one of each off the shelf and with a little handy tape measure work find out.

thanks again man. and wish me luck. they only hire retards and my local auto parts store. if they cant type it in the computer to find out they are usually lost."its a custom application," i say which just confuses them more

Hire the handy cap their fun to watch........just tell them you need a master for a 83 chevy truck and a master for a 72 chevy truck.
