What Year Is My Frame?

Trying to do some research on my frame. My cab and glovebox match as a 1969. My bed is a 1992, but I can't find out what year my frame is. I checked where the vin should be on the frame but it isn't there. Since my bumper doesn't line up correctly I'm assuming the frame is not a 1967-1972 frame. I will attach some pics at different angles of the frame. Thanks in advance.

Re: What Year Is My Frame?

frame looks cool to me.
Did you try sanding some paint off in the VIN area there? Some spray bomb stuff is thick enough to fill in the numbers.

Not yet. So it looks like a 67-72 frame to you?

Re: What Year Is My Frame?

yeah, it looks right.
Besides, it would be pretty difficult to put trailing arms on a later frame

Re: What Year Is My Frame?

Well the thing that is throwing me off is the front of the frame where it attaches to the bumper. My frame where it attaches to the bumper looks like the top picture. Shouldn't it look like the bottom one? My bumper sticks out farther then I think it should (I can't use the inner mounts because the frame is weird).

Re: What Year Is My Frame?

Something does not look right with the frame section where the steering gearbox is. On 68 and later frames, that part of the frame has a inward curve to accept a powersteering gearbox. Is it possible that it is earlier then 67?

Re: What Year Is My Frame?

Not sure. I know this was once a manual truck and now it is automatic so could that have something to do with that?

Re: What Year Is My Frame?

The frame dimple has nothing to do with trannys....

On some later 67s frame and up to 72s frame, when you stand in front of the truck and look down over the radiator at the driver side frame horn where the steering gearbox is bolted, it will curve inward where you see the cap (with 4 bolts and one center adjust bolt) of the gearbox. If yours is straight, you have a 67 or earlier frame.... I would even say it is earlier then 67 as all of the 67 frames I have seen have the partial vin number stamped on top of the frame where your powersteering pump is closest to frame.
Can post pictures for clarifications tonight when I get home.

Re: What Year Is My Frame?

Here is a picture of a 67 frame and a picture of a 69 frame. Notice where I put the line in both pictures, where one is relatively flat, the other is curved inward.

Looking at your picture, it appears that your does not even have the raised area that is common in both of my pictures, which is why I feel that your frame is 1966 or earlier.

Re: What Year Is My Frame?

Thanks for the info. So does anyone have a guess on what year it is? Here is a bigger pic of the area you were looking at.

Re: What Year Is My Frame?

My guess is 1964-1966!

Look at how the bumper curves!

Kinda curves in at the top... like your frame.

Re: What Year Is My Frame?

Now with the bigger pic... I have to agree it does look odd.
on the passenger side, front frame rail... about 12 inches back from the rad, does the frame flair up a little?

Re: What Year Is My Frame?

I'm not sure I will take more pics tomm. I think you might be right with the 1964-1966 guess, but not 100% sure yet. Thanks!

Re: What Year Is My Frame?

Heck yes, I know I got it! THe front of the frame and that bumper just contour together too coincidentally. But, we'll see. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Re: What Year Is My Frame?

Here are some more pics. Yes, Andy the frame does flare up there. See the pics. What does that mean? See how the front of the frame where it attaches to the bumper is shaped? Anyone else have any opinions?

Re: What Year Is My Frame?

Update: I sanded down the frame where the numbers should be and guess what. They were there. I found it to be N127897. What does this mean? How can I research this and find out what year it is?

I'll assume that isn't the latter part of your truck's VIN?

Nope, the vin on my cab is CS149848140. So how can I find out what these numbers mean?
