69 swb turbo Ls swap

Bought this gem today it's an 02 2500 hd Silverado 4x4 with the 6.0l and 4l80e got the whole truck for 1500$ with 160,000 miles plan on doing rods and Pistons with ls3 heads a boost cam and a s480 turbo with maybe around 14 pounds of boost. Haven't done an Ls swap yet in our trucks if anybody has any suggestions on motor mounts and motor mount brackets and what accessory drives works in our trucks that would be great oil pan etc. will post as many pics as I can along the way.

I build double walled water cooler stainless steel turbo kits for high end jetskis on the side and I am thinking of doing water cooled housings on my kit to keep down under hood temps let me know what you think!

This is one of the Borg Warner efr turbo housings I build it would be very similar to this

Got the front clip off driveshafts out and transfer case off pretty close to pulling it out

I used early classics mounts in mine they worked well but my swap was a 2wd. they make a complete kit with everything for just over $200 that has poly mounts. I used the stock accessories and the stock pan. I have some photos on my one owner short step build

the mounts I used will work fine for you. I would set the motor back about an inch from the stock v8 holes with those mounts. are you going to run your current transmission?

Ok great I'll look up the early classics setup and I'll check your pictures out cause I would like to use the stock pan and all the accessories air conditioning compressor alternator etc. and I am going to be running the 4l80e that is hooked to the 6.0l I'm gonna have the output shaft changed to the 2wd setup

So I was just looking at the early classics late mode Ls swap motor mount kit and I was wondering does it have adjustment front and back like a lot of the Ls swap motor plates?

it does not but it worked well for my application. I also used their 4l80 trans mount to keep the pinion angle good

Ok great well sounds like I got the motor mounts figured out! Did you have to modify the trans tunnel at all to fit the 4l80e in your truck?

Got the main engine harness disconnected from the fuse panel and got all the power steering lines and cooler off all the heater core lines and Ac lines and trans cooler off, the only thing left is fuel rails and motor mounts, but have to take the pup to dog training and have my girlfriends suprise bday dinner tomorrow night with family and her actual bday dinner Friday night with friends so I will be pulling it out Saturday morning! I am interested in where you guys are mounting the computer? In the cab? On the fender well? And what all is involved in getting the motor running in the truck as far as wiring?

I did. I cut out the low hump and welded in studs for a high hump and then bolted it in just like factory. I use a company called lsx unlimited to do my harness and pc tuning.lsx unlimited is based out of Alvarado and has done well for me in the past they are currently working on another harness for me that I will pick up on Saturday. there is a guy on the board that does it but he never got back to me so I don't know anything about them. if you want to do the harness yourself go to ls1.com they have all the pinouts there.

Ok cool I was kind of thinking I might need to change to a high hump for the 4l80e but wasn't sure, and I'll have to check out lsx unlimited I think I might follow those guys on Instagram, I actually just rewired my whole truck a couple months ago with a harness from haywire so hopefully I won't have to change to much of what I already did lol I'm thinking of running a racepak for my gauge cluster and getting rid of my auto meters, I read over 3 or 4 pages of your 6.0 ls build this morning before look and it looks awesome man!

Thanks. it makes me smile every time I get into it. I ran a relay for my starter because I heard the ls starter solenoid pulls too many amps and can burn up the switch. not sure if it is true but I went with it since a relay is better than replacing my switch.

I'm not sure I'd bother with water cooling the turbine housing or the up pipe. On jet ski it's needed due to the cramped space and it doesn't hurt performance due to the short amount of piping between the engine and the turbo. For applications like ours most just use header wrap on the piping and maybe a turbo blanket if it's close to something. The wrap keeps the heat in the pipes, both to lower under hood temps and to make sure the turbo gets that heat to spool as quick as possible. Water cooling the housing and piping may not degrade performance much if at all, but to me it seems like an unnecessary complication for our style of application. Nice fab work though, can't wait to see the kit you come up with.

I'm going to be doing a similar setup in my truck but I'm not ready for action yet and still in the planning stages. Haven't done too much research on fuel systems yet but recommend visiting LS1tech, and sloppymechanics.com and watching his 6.0 Colorado vids. A common combination is using 80lb injectors with a Walbro 400 which if I recall correctly is good to about 600whp. If you want to go further than that you're going to need more injector and fuel pump. Sloppymechanics likes to go the least expensive route and runs a pair of Walbro 400's T'd into the same line instead of a big single pump for his 800whp Colorado.

While there's no reason you can't keep your Summit fuel cell, you can't run an in tank pump with it. In tank pumps will be quieter, run cooler and can last longer because of it. You can't keep your QuickFuel pump (not enough pressure for EFI) so you're redoing most of your fuel system, if you're going to replace the tank/cell now is the time to do it.

Yea after I talked that idea over with the guy I work with on the jetski turbo kits he said it prolly wouldn't be the best idea so I scratched that idea pretty quick after thinking it up , and yea I knew I wouldn't be able to use my quickfuel pump it's only good for 14 psi for a carbuerated setup, I've watched some of sloppy mechanics builds and it is pretty cool what he does on a budget, I like the idea of the twin walboro pumps into one line, I guess as of right now I need to figure out whether I'm gonna run an external or in tank setup, I'd like to get away from the noisey external if I could my quickfuel I run now is very loud

It sucks when you already have a tank/cell, but if it was me I'd ditch it and go in tank. Afterall, you're ditching your current engine for a more street able setup, why love with a noises fuel pump. There's other options besides a custom tank too, any of the rear mount conversion tanks for our trucks designed for fuel injection would be fine. Mount the pump(s) of your choice to the thingy that drops in (forget what that's called) and you're golden. You're already wired up, just need to make sure it's sufficient for the draw.

Yea man for sure I agree 100% I just found this drop in aeromotive setup which you can run up to three drop in pumps which one single is good for 700 hp forced induction efi and two it says is good for 1400 hp and I could retrofit it into my fuel cell!

On my turbo build, I went with the Boyd's fuel cell with the in tank aeromotive a1000. All -8 line, y'd going into the fuel rails, with the regulator mounted to the passenger side rail and then returned to the tank. The A1000 pump should be more than sufficient for what I'm going to be running. If you dont wanna spend the money on it, I have a couple friends that have ran the dual walbro 255 with good success.
