327/vortec heads/cam???
theres the combo woundering if it's worth it???
I understand that the heads can only take up to .500 lift so I would be looking to get the biggest bang for my buck on a winter budget .... all I have now is a stock motor with a performer intake HEI and an edlebrock?? truck is a 2wd c 10 th350 with 3.08 gears that I'm adding pro streets to and I'm hoping to step up to 3.73 gear..I just wouldn't want to be embarassed with my mouse motor and that look will my headers bolt up to the heads?? I know the intake is out... any good cam ideas?? thanx Jeff and yea my drream is a caddy/BB but for now...........

Stock GMPP Vortecs are lift-limited to .475. This can be extended by changing the springs - but the flow tops out right around .475 so it's not really worth spending the money.
The Vortec would be a good fit for a 327; it's got a 4.00 bore and the flow is well-matched to the size of the engine given the right cam. Note that this would require an intake swap to a Vortec Performer...so you need to factor that into your cost. The headers will bolt right up. Also you'll want to have the water temp sensor hole drilled out (search on this) or find another location for it. The gears kinda determine the cam choice - are you REALLY going to step up to 3.73s, or are you going to have the 3.08's for while? What kind of RPM are you seeing at cruise today, and what carb do you have? |

They usually run 400.00 - 550.00 new but you will also need a vortec intake. The headers may need to be different as well because from what I heard the exhaust ports are a little higher than the regular sbc heads. But for a bolt on HP inprovement they are good for 40-50 hp out of the box. cams are another story.... I downloaded the neat tool from Comp cams website: http://www.compcams.com/camquest/ When I ran my motor combo through this was my printout.... I hope this helps.

seems like the .470 lift is where your cam is running just what Ticker said!!
312 hp and 395 torque have got to be better than what I have as far as the 308's go they are pretty high for what my normal driving is...a common drive to the store is 7 miles of 2 lane then 14 mile sprint on the highway...the rest of my cruzing is 2 lane between 35 and 50 mph.....once in a great while there will be some extended highway travel like a trip to CT. about 200 miles but with the PS tires I'll be keeping to the posted speed limits anyway my head #'s now are 379589 GM23 085 I'm looking for the info on them
