'99 Tahoe Intermittant Starting?
Problem with our '99 Tahoe just started about a week ago. Wife calls me from her cell phone and says "car won't start." She is at the local Wally World which is about 2 miles from the house. When I get there and try to start it, it fires right up. Does the same thing couple days ago, wife calls says car won't start. When I get there and try it, fires right up. After talking to her, ( gotta' understand she is not mechanically inclined at all) I find out the Tahoe does roll over, cranks good but will not start. This morning it done the same thing. Would not start after sitting overnight in the garage. Rolls over and cranks fine. Would not start. After sitting for about 30 minutes or so I try it again and it starts right up, idles fine. Shut it off and restart several times with no problem. Engine is a 5.7 (350) with about 76,000 miles on it. Any ideas what to look at? Newer computer controlled engines are not my strong point. More to the old school points, carb setups.

Re: '99 Tahoe Intermittant Starting?
Both times when my wife had problems starting the Tahoe it was in the evening and the air was cold and damp. Melted snow and humidity in the air. Garage is de-tached and unheated so that is a possiblity. Will look into that. Thanks.

Re: '99 Tahoe Intermittant Starting?
My daughter in laws 99 tahoe was doing the exact same thing this weekend. I pulled the battery cable off and noticed the threaded part into the battery was corroded with a little rust. Cleaned it it off with battery cable spray and seemed to remedy the problem. It to has been cold and damp here.

Re: '99 Tahoe Intermittant Starting?
Changed out the dizzy cap and rotor last night when I got home from work. So far so good, course it has been a little drier and a little warmer. See what happens. First experience with a Vortec cap. Sure changes out easier than the older style HEI dizzy cap. Looked at the under side of the old cap and can't tell if it actually had a crack or was possibly a mold mark in the center. Looked to be the original GM cap. (76,000 miles).
