1969 C10 original 307 engine question
bought a 1969 C-10 LB step Side a couple of years back. I rebuild the underneath, and lowered it along with new power disc breaks. Oh...and it's a 3 on the tree which I love. Anyway, I totally ruptured my achillies tendon 11 weeks ago and just getting around in a boot. It's hell to get old...I know. I finally made it out to my shop and decides to clean up the engine bay. I removed the Rochester 2GV carburetor to rebuild....removed the ram horn exhaust manifolds and found oil coming out of the 2 rear bolt holes? Is this a problem?? I have new Ram horns and new exhaust system to go in and was going to remove the intake manifold to clean and paint. Mind you I think a main seal needs replacing and oil pan gasket, so pretty good amount of oil under there. Looking on this site I'm almost thinking L31 replacement from Jegs....but am also reluctant to replace engine as it runs pretty damn good. Really need help on oil out of Manifold bolt holes or a kick over the fence to replace engine.....questions are good Thanks for any responses... bored no driving the last 11 weeks and getting back on my feet and into my truck for the summer hopefully?

Manifold holes should be blind so any oil is probably just leaked from the valve covers.
I have a 69 short step with a 307 as well and a TH350. I would proceed with your plan until you want to REALLY spend money. Mine is getting an L36 427 from a 69 Corvette an a TH200 4R.

Mike....I got my truck from Austin Last Spring. My brother lives in Houston and had some workers in Austin and they drove the truck to his place to ship up here.
It was dry all around the cylinder head and the bolt was wet the entire length and oil dripping down the block from the bolt hole. Seemed odd and thought maybe someone tapped it at one point and went a little to far? I'll throw some high temp thread sealer just in case and put her back together. A 427 is a hell of an engine.....I'm just interested in a good reliable engine to cruise around in

Big block and a 2004-R? I too like to live dangerously OP- Get a new engine if you want one. Sounds like you don't need it, so there's that.

Were the corresponding ports on the mainifold blacker or crustier than the others? I agree with the idea that the oil found its way there from external sources but some kinda nastiness in the ports would say otherwise. If they appear the same as all the others, I'd do a compression test for good measures, then yank the motor for some gasket changes, fresh paint and maybe some new freeze plugs if it doesn't have brass ones already.
