Power Steering Pump - Pulley Issue
I bought a new pulley, pump, and pulley removal tool today from autozone. I have rented/used the tool a couple of times before with no problems slipping the pulley right off the pump and switching out the pump. This time the pulley simply will not come off the pump. The threading inside the nut on the tool stripped when I gave it a little more torque than I should have to get the pump off. After trying the three pronged puller I had with no luck I started trying to pry the pulley off with a tie rod separator and a mallet. I bent the pulley to hell and back, without damaging the bracket that the pump and alternator sit on. It just will not come off.
I'm looking at cutting the pulley off unless someone has another idea. I think I can remove the entire bracket and get it on the ground but I think the pulley is somewhat fused to the pump. I have a 1991 Chevy k1500, 5.7l engine. The power steering pump does not have hydroboost.

Re: Power Steering Pump - Pulley Issue
You might need to drop some coin to get the proper puller.
Here is the one I bought from Jegs: http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS+Performan...80611/10002/-1 It's already paid for itself ttwice and is easy to use. Also comes with the install tool as well. Gary

That tool looks exactly like the tool I used at the same cost. I'm considering just buying another one.. maybe that particular tool was poorly made.

Re: Power Steering Pump - Pulley Issue
That's possible. I have used mine to pull and install at least 5 to 6 pulleys in the last few years.

Re: Power Steering Pump - Pulley Issue
I got the pulley off! Since the puller I had refused to make any progress I loaned this pulley instead, poked the tie rod separator between the pulley and shaft, and cranked on the pulley puller (while keeping the tie rod separator wedged).
